It all started with an idea of making a difference
Isola Corvus Oy (Ltd) is a Finnish newcomer in the super yacht community but yet an instant leader in thinking green and providing a completely new level of ease into sailing. Company is founded by Sami Lehtonen and Sanna-Kaisa Koivisto, offshore racing partners, innovators and entrepreneurs. Time spent together at the sea in all weather conditions showed they had something else than the love for sea and racing in common, a desire to make a mark in the sailing industry.
Velarca project started, when these two sailors and explores found out through intense market research that there is room for a specific kind of sailing yacht in the market and decided to act. “We wanted to bring a better, more environmentally friendly alternative to the yacht market, in order for us to make sure the next generations get to enjoy the wonders of the seas as well.”
With a clear vision of Velarca 135 in their minds, Sami and Sanna-Kaisa contacted beiderbeck designs, and pitched the idea of co-creating something radically new to the scene.
beiderbeck designs brings the idea to life
Behind the final Velarca 135 design are beiderbeck owners and creative minds, lmmo Lüdeling and Tim Ulrich, who together has more than 50 years of experience in the design of super yachts. For 10 years both are on the A-list of 50 finest super yacht designers of the Boat International magazine.
“Why hasn´t anyone done this before?”, Tim and Immo replied, when the idea was first introduced, and almost immediately started sketching. Now Velarca 135 design is out in the open, and ready to be produced.

“As a kid I spent all my summer holidays by the water. I did sail quite a bit as a kid but at that time my heroes weren’t sailors but instead powerboat builders and racers such as Cees van der Velden, Renato Molinari and in Finland the Fabritius brothers with their almost invincible Argo powerboats.
Looking up to these gentlemen made me decide to pursue a career in yacht building which I started by studying boat building in Finland followed by a naval architects’ degree in Southampton Solent University.
In 2010 I started making plans on what needed to be done to facilitate a comeback into yacht building and doing an MBA in Hanken and reviving my yacht racing career (this time around as a sailor) seemed like a good idea.”

“Sailing has been a dear hobby of mine since 2017. The feeling you get when sails set is something you must experience yourself in order to be able to feel, it´s out of this world.
I got to know Sami when we were a part of the same offshore racing team in Finland. I have always been eager to learn new things, and when Sami pitched me the idea of designing something new to the scene, I was in immediately.
My background in marketing, new business development and project management are put to great use in this company.”
